Thanks for unblocking me! I am deeply sorry. The similarity to any profanity in Serbian was not my purpose. Kurator is the German word for curator. Kind regards, --Kurator71 (razgovor) 09:55, 17. maj 2016. (CEST)[odgovori]

Sorry for the use of English. FYI that I've tagged Institut za uporedno pravo as a copyright violation, as it was the claimed source of a page that I have verified as a copyright violation and deleted as such on en.wiki. There is no problem with writing in any language, we can understand each other now.
Yes, you tagged it and then I rewrote it and removed irrelevant things – so that it does not represent copyright violation anymore. You can check page history and talk page. If you still want it to be deleted or think it is still copyright violation, you can always start process on Vikipedija:Članci za brisanje or comment on talk page.   Obsuser 13:33, 8. novembar 2017. Inspire Campaign: Improving diversity, improving content

uredi

This March, we’re organizing an Inspire Campaign to encourage and support new ideas for improving gender diversity on Wikimedia projects. Less than 20% of Wikimedia contributors are women, and many important topics are still missing in our content. We invite all Wikimedians to participate. If you have an idea that could help address this problem, please get involved today! The campaign runs until March 31.

All proposals are welcome - research projects, technical solutions, community organizing and outreach initiatives, or something completely new! Funding is available from the Wikimedia Foundation for projects that need financial support. Constructive, positive feedback on ideas is appreciated, and collaboration is encouraged - your skills and experience may help bring someone else’s project to life. Join us at the Inspire Campaign and help this project better represent the world’s knowledge!

This is a message from the 2015 Wikimedia Foundation Elections Committee. Translations are available.

Greetings,

I am pleased to announce that nominations are now being accepted for the 2015 Wikimedia Foundation Elections. This year the Board and the FDC Staff are looking for a diverse set of candidates from regions and projects that are traditionally under-represented on the board and in the movement as well as candidates with experience in technology, product or finance. To this end they have published letters describing what they think is needed and, recognizing that those who know the community the best are the community themselves, the election committee is accepting nominations for community members you think should run and will reach out to those nominated to provide them with information about the job and the election process.

This year, elections are being held for the following roles:

Board of Trustees
The Board of Trustees is the decision-making body that is ultimately responsible for the long term sustainability of the Foundation, so we value wide input into its selection. There are three positions being filled. More information about this role can be found at the board elections page.

Funds Dissemination Committee (FDC)
The Funds Dissemination Committee (FDC) makes recommendations about how to allocate Wikimedia movement funds to eligible entities. There are five positions being filled. More information about this role can be found at the FDC elections page.

Funds Dissemination Committee (FDC) Ombud
The FDC Ombud receives complaints and feedback about the FDC process, investigates complaints at the request of the Board of Trustees, and summarizes the investigations and feedback for the Board of Trustees on an annual basis. One position is being filled. More information about this role can be found at the FDC Ombudsperson elections page.

The candidacy submission phase lasts from 00:00 UTC April 20 to 23:59 UTC May 5 for the Board and from 00:00 UTCApril 20 to 23:59 UTC April 30 for the FDC and FDC Ombudsperson. This year, we are accepting both self-nominations and nominations of others. More information on this election and the nomination process can be found on the 2015 Wikimedia elections page on Meta-Wiki.

Please feel free to post a note about the election on your project's village pump. Any questions related to the election can be posted on the talk page on Meta, or sent to the election committee's mailing list, board-elections -at- wikimedia.org

Content Translation beta feature coming soon

uredi

Hello, we are scheduling the deployment of Content Translation as an opt-in beta feature on the Serbian Wikipedia later this week. Earlier, we attempted testing on the beta server (needs separate login) prior to deployment, however due to unstable conditions on the beta environment it is now advisable to have users test the tool directly on the Wikipedia. Please note, it is an opt-in beta feature only available to logged in users. Please let us know your comments and feedback through the Content Translation talk page or through Phabricator ticket that we are using to track the deployment stages. It is important for us to be aware of any concerns or special requirements on the Serbian Wikipedia before we prepare for deployment, so please do let us know. For more information, please read about how to use the tool. You can also view a short screencast on how to use Content Translation. Please feel free to translate this message for wider distribution. Thank you. --KartikMistry (razgovor) 06:20, 27. maj 2015. (CEST)[odgovori]

Content Translation beta-feature is now available

uredi

Hello, Content Translation has now been enabled as an opt-in beta feature on the Serbian Wikipedia. This is part of the original request for the CEE Spring editing event. To start translating, please enable the beta feature and go to Special:ContentTranslation or to your contributions page and create a new translation by selecting the source language, the article name and target language. If the article already exists then a warning will be displayed. After you translate the article, you can publish it directly as a new page on the Serbian Wikipedia. In case the article gets created by another user while you were translating, you will see an option to save the newly published translation under your user namespace. The number of published pages can be seen on the Content Translation stats page.

Since, this is the first time we have installed the tool on this Wikipedia, there are chances that there may be some problems or service disruptions which we are not yet aware of. We will be monitoring the usage to check for any failures or issues, but please do let us know on the Content Translation talk page or through Phabricator if you spot any problems that prevent you from using the tool. For more information, please read about how to use the tool. More information is also available in the User Guide. You can also view a short screencast on how to use Content Translation. Our announcement is written only in English, and we would really appreciate if this message can be translated to reach more users of this Wikipedia. Thank you. --Runab WMF (razgovor) 17:57, 28. maj 2015. (CEST)[odgovori]

Pywikibot compat will no longer be supported - Please migrate to pywikibot core

uredi

Sorry for English, I hope someone translates this.
Pywikibot (then "Pywikipediabot") was started back in 2002. In 2007 a new branch (formerly known as "rewrite", now called "core") was started from scratch using the MediaWiki API. The developers of Pywikibot have decided to stop supporting the compat version of Pywikibot due to bad performance and architectural errors that make it hard to update, compared to core. If you are using pywikibot compat it is likely your code will break due to upcoming MediaWiki API changes (e.g. T101524). It is highly recommended you migrate to the core framework. There is a migration guide, and please contact us if you have any problem.

There is an upcoming MediaWiki API breaking change that compat will not be updated for. If your bot's name is in this list, your bot will most likely break.

Thank you,
The Pywikibot development team, 19:30, 5 June 2015 (UTC)

Proposal to create PNG thumbnails of static GIF images

uredi

The thumbnail of this gif is of really bad quality.

How a PNG thumb of this GIF would look like

There is a proposal at the Commons Village Pump requesting feedback about the thumbnails of static GIF images: It states that static GIF files should have their thumbnails created in PNG. The advantages of PNG over GIF would be visible especially with GIF images using an alpha channel. (compare the thumbnails on the side)

This change would affect all wikis, so if you support/oppose or want to give general feedback/concerns, please post them to the proposal page. Thank you. --McZusatz (talk) & MediaWiki message delivery (razgovor) 07:07, 24. jul 2015. (CEST)[odgovori]

Conversion of the Scripts

uredi

Dear Users,

I am really interested in knowing how the software of conversion of scripts is working. We would like to do the same for Tunisian Arabic.

Yours Sincerely,

--Csisc (razgovor) 15:29, 31. jul 2015. (CEST)[odgovori]

Well, you can test here how it works. Basically, you just click on the variant you want to see and the conversion is done automatically. That's because it's fairly easy to convert from Latin to Cyrillic and vice versa. I'm guessing that apart from the standard Arabic script, you would be using Latin script, or some sort of romanization. I have no idea how well they correspond to each other, and thus how easy it would be to implement the conversion. As for the details of the implementation, you'd probably have to look at the code itself. --F± 13:14, 1. avgust 2015. (CEST)[odgovori]
F: Thank you for your reply. I will try to give here an overview about how the conversion works. In fact, Arabic to Latin Conversion is not based only on the transcribed letter but also on the letter before it and the letter after it. For example: the glottal stop is transcribed according to the vowel preceding it and the one after it. I ask if the conversion could be done in Wikipedia.--Csisc (razgovor) 17:14, 3. avgust 2015. (CEST)[odgovori]
If there's a finite set of rules, then it can most likely be done. The problem is generally finding someone to do it :) --F± 19:23, 3. avgust 2015. (CEST)[odgovori]
F: So, I ask about how to do the software and how to successfully implement it. --Csisc (razgovor) 13:35, 4. avgust 2015. (CEST)[odgovori]
Well, if you're a programmer/developer, you can look at the MediaWiki codebase and start from there. When you have a patch ready for applying to the project, you can file a task on Phabricator. If you're not a developer, then I suggest finding one in your community. --F± 00:51, 5. avgust 2015. (CEST)[odgovori]

Wikidata: Access to data from arbitrary items is coming

uredi

(Sorry for writing in English)

When using data from Wikidata on Wikipedia and other sister projects, there is currently a limitation in place that hinders some use cases: data can only be accessed from the corresponding item. So, for example, the Wikipedia article about Berlin can only get data from the Wikidata item about Berlin but not from the item about Germany. This had technical reasons. We are now removing this limitation. It is already done for many projects. Your project is one of the next ones. We will roll out this feature here on August 12.

We invite you to play around with this new feature if you are one of the people who have been waiting for this for a long time. If you have technical issues/questions with this you can come to d:Wikidata:Contact the development team.

A note of caution: Please be careful with how many items you use for a single page. If it is too many pages, loading might get slow. We will have to see how the feature behaves in production to see where we need to tweak and how.

How to use it, once it is enabled:

On behalf of Wikipedia Community User Group Greece, we would like to invite you to be part of an ambitious Wikipedia-inspired project for the City of Thessaloniki. The project is entitled thesswiki, and aims to digitize the history and culture of the city of Thessaloniki and connect the physical monuments to the wikipedia world.

QR codes will be mounted on the sides of buildings or monuments in order to allow users with smartphones, focusing specifically on tourists and visitors, to scan them and instantly access up-to-date Wikipedia entries about all aspects of life in Thessaloniki in their native language. (see QRpedia)

We invite you to support the project and write and extend articles about these monuments in your own languages, as this will benefit visitors of Thessaloniki, from you own country. You can see the actual progress on the following page: meta:thesswiki#Articles of interest

Museums and archives of the city have pledged to open and upload content to Wikimedia Commons, and also support the writting of better articles.

At this point, we are excited to invite neighboring and other international Wikipedia chapters or User Froups, and interested Wikimedians to participate in the project. The project will be officially announced at the opening ceremony of Demetria Festival 2015, the most prominent annual cultural festival taking place in Thessaloniki in September 2015 and an official kick-off event is planned to take place during the weekend of September 26 & 27.

During the kick off event, we will present the project and what has taken place this far to the general public. Moreover, an Edit-athon event and a QR-marathon will take place, and possibly include speeches from international speakers and host a wiki-camp for international participants.

In this framework, we invite you to a 2-day-backstage-visit schedule, especially designed for wikipedians wishing to travel to Thessaloniki during the kick-off event, offering a VIP-tour around the most prominent museums, monuments, and galleries in the city (such as the Museum of Byzantine Culture, the Museum of Photography, and the State Museum of Contemporary Art) and participation in major Dimitria and thesswiki actions. We are aiming to inspire you to write articles in your native wikipedia languages and we are planning to offer accommodation for two nights (25-26 September), and meals as detailed in the attached agenda. (Since the budget for this program is limited, if your chapter/user-group is able to cover travel expenses for you users and you would like to use it instead of our free accommodation offer, you would be more than welcome to use it :). This will help us host even more people!) In case you are interested, please reply ASAP to team@wikimedia.gr and thesswiki@postscriptum.gr to help you arrange all the specifics and provide you further information.

(Sorry for writing in english. Feel free to translate.)

Hi administrators,

I suggest you adding this CSS style into your MediaWiki:Common.css to enable Serbian form in Cyrillic texts:

font-feature-settings: 'locl';
-webkit-font-feature-settings: 'locl';

If you do it, the required variant for Serbian language will be available in Chrome, Opera, Microsoft Edge, etc. For example, if you installed Linux Libertine font, then opened Vikipedija:Dobro došli in Chrome, you will found b can be displaying as δ. Anyone else got problem?

Wikiproject Erasmus Prize Winners

uredi

Dear fellow wikipedians,

My apologies for using English here, please help translate if you are able.
Wikipedia has been awarded the Erasmus Prize 2015. This international prize is awarded annually to a person or institution that has made an exceptional contribution to culture, society or social science. The King of the Netherlands will present the award on 25 November. This will create media attention which will hopefully result in plenty of new volunteers. Prior to the award ceremony we would like to write and improve articles on former Erasmus Prize winners. All 80 former laureates should be notable enough to merit an article.

Please join the project and help us provide our fellow laureates with articles.

Wikimania 2016 scholarships ambassadors needed

uredi

Hello! Wikimania 2016 scholarships will soon be open; by the end of the week we'll form the committee and we need your help, see Scholarship committee for details.

If you want to carefully review nearly a thousand applications in January, you might be a perfect committee member. Otherwise, you can volunteer as "ambassador": you will observe all the committee activities, ensure that people from your language or project manage to apply for a scholarship, translate scholarship applications written in your language to English and so on. Ambassadors are allowed to ask for a scholarship, unlike committee members.

Harassment consultation

The Community Advocacy team the Wikimedia Foundation has opened a consultation on the topic of harassment on Meta. The consultation period is intended to run for one month from today, November 16, and end on December 17. Please share your thoughts there on harassment-related issues facing our communities and potential solutions. (Note: this consultation is not intended to evaluate specific cases of harassment, but rather to discuss the problem of harassment itself.)

This is a message regarding the proposed 2015 Free Bassel banner. Translations are available.

Hi everyone,

This is to inform all Wikimedia contributors that a straw poll seeking your involvement has just been started on Meta-Wiki.

As some of your might be aware, a small group of Wikimedia volunteers have proposed a banner campaign informing Wikipedia readers about the urgent situation of our fellow Wikipedian, open source software developer and Creative Commons activist, Bassel Khartabil. An exemplary banner and an explanatory page have now been prepared, and translated into about half a dozen languages by volunteer translators.

We are seeking your involvement to decide if the global Wikimedia community approves starting a banner campaign asking Wikipedia readers to call on the Syrian government to release Bassel from prison. We understand that a campaign like this would be unprecedented in Wikipedia's history, which is why we're seeking the widest possible consensus among the community.

Given Bassel's urgent situation and the resulting tight schedule, we ask everyone to get involved with the poll and the discussion to the widest possible extent, and to promote it among your communities as soon as possible.

(Apologies for writing in English; please kindly translate this message into your own language.)

Thank you for your participation!

As many of you know, January 15 is Wikipedia’s 15th Birthday!

People around the world are getting involved in the celebration and have started adding their events on Meta Page. While we are celebrating Wikipedia's birthday, we hope that all projects and affiliates will be able to utilize this celebration to raise awareness of our community's efforts.

Haven’t started planning? Don’t worry, there’s lots of ways to get involved. Here are some ideas:

Everything is linked on the Wikipedia 15 Meta page. You’ll find a set of ten data visualization works that you can show at your events, and a list of all the Wikipedia 15 logos that community members have already designed.

If you have any questions, please contact Zachary McCune or Joe Sutherland.

Thanks and Happy nearly Wikipedia 15!

Password Strength RFC

uredi

Hello

We have started an RFC on meta to increase password requirements for users that have accounts which can edit MediaWiki:Common.js, have access to checkuser or have access to Oversight.

These types of accounts have sensitive access to our sites, and can cause real harm if they fall into malicious hands. Currently the only requirement is the password is at least 1 letter long. We would like to make the minimum be 8 letters (bytes) long and also ban certain really common passwords.

By increasing requirements on passwords for accounts with high levels of access, we hope to make Wikimedia wikis more secure for everyone. Please read the full text of the proposal here, and make your voice heard at the RFC.

Thank you

Happy Public Domain Day 2016!

uredi

Logo Public Domain Day

Feel free to translate this message in your language!

On January 1 we celebrate Public Domain Day as many works of authors who died 70+ years ago now enter the public domain and can be used freely.

Let us be aware: copyright is temporary. It only lasts during the authors lifetime and 70 years afterwards (in most countries). During those years it is limiting Wikipedia and her sister projects in showing works of art, literature, public art and buildings in countries without freedom of panorama, and more in the articles. But now a new batch is freed from copyrights!

An overview of images and texts that are restored or added to the Wikimedia Commons, are collected on: this page.

Many of these files still need a place in articles. You can help!

You can also help by uploading new files of subjects that are freed of copyrights.
You can also help by tagging all requests for deletion pages with the category when the file can be restored, which will be/was deleted.

As I follow the log of restored files this week, more images and texts will follow. If still files or texts are missing in the list, let me know or add them yourselves.

A very happy Public Domain Day! Romaine (razgovor) 14:02, 2. januar 2016. (CET)[odgovori]

2016 WMF Strategy consultation

uredi
Pomozite u prevođenju na svoj jezik

Hello, all.

The Wikimedia Foundation (WMF) has launched a consultation to help create and prioritize WMF strategy beginning July 2016 and for the 12 to 24 months thereafter. This consultation will be open, on Meta, from 18 January to 26 February, after which the Foundation will also use these ideas to help inform its Annual Plan. (More on our timeline can be found on that Meta page.)

Your input is welcome (and greatly desired) at the Meta discussion, 2016 Strategy/Community consultation.

Apologies for English, where this is posted on a non-English project. We thought it was more important to get the consultation translated as much as possible, and good headway has been made there in some languages. There is still much to do, however! We created m:2016 Strategy/Translations to try to help coordinate what needs translation and what progress is being made. :)

If you have questions, please reach out to me on my talk page or on the strategy consultation's talk page or by email to mdennis@wikimedia.org.

Ostale posledice:

They will post any changes on that schedule. Biće još obaveštenja o ovome. Molimo Vas da ove informacije podelite sa zajednicom. /Johan (WMF) (razgovor) 00:50, 18. april 2016. (CEST)[odgovori]

Additional machine translation support enabled today for Content Translation

uredi

Hello, machine translation support for Content Translation (beta feature) has now been extended for users of Serbian Wikipedia and in addition to Apertium, Yandex has also been enabled. It can be used when translating Wikipedia articles into Serbian with Content Translation. To start using this service, please choose ‘’Yandex.Translate’’ from the ‘’Automatic Translation’’ dropdown menu that you see on the sidebar after you start translating an article. Please note, machine translation is available from all the languages that are supported by Yandex.Translate, but Content Translation can still be used in the usual manner for translating from all languages, with or without machine translation support.

Wikimedia Foundation’s Legal team and Yandex had collaborated earlier to work out an agreement that allows the use of Yandex.Translate without compromising Wikipedia’s policy of attribution of rights, privacy of our users and brand representation. Since November 2015, Yandex machine translation has been used for articles translated for Wikipedias in many languages. Details about Yandex translation services, including a summary of the contract are available on this page. More information about the machine translation services in Content Translation is available on this page. We request you to kindly take a look at these pages.

We have tested the service for use on the Serbian Wikipedia, but there could be unknown problems that we are not aware of yet. Please do let us know on our Project Talk page or phabricator if you face any problems using Content Translation. This message is only in English and we will be very grateful if it could be translated into Serbian for other users of this Wikipedia. Thank you. @Dogross и Milicevic01: It seems like Oberbahnhof's reasoning applies here. If you check your global account info, it looks like it was attached to this wiki at 10:24 p.m. on June 12, 2016, while the bot sent you a welcome message at 10:06 p.m. on June 16, 2016. Seems like a delayed welcome message to me. I've pinged the bot's owner anyway, just 'cuz I want to know how the bot figures out when to send the message if it hasn't done so instantly. By the way, let's not blow this out of proportion by treating it like it's some sort of unthinkable spam. It's just a welcome message, for crying out loud. – Srdjan m (разговор) 09:09, 17. јун 2016. JavaScript

uredi
Hi. I can see that this project has old JavaScript that needs to be updated. I would happily make the required updates myself, but I would have to – at least temporarily – become an admin here to do that (because the relevant pages are in the MediaWiki namespace). I have already made these updates on a number of other projects, so it would be very easy for me to do this. If no one does anything, some JavaScript-related tools will break later this year. If you want me to make these updates, you can grant me admin rights and I will make the updates as soon as I can. Nirmos (разговор) 18:30, 6. јун 2016. (CEST)[odgovori]

Wikipedia to the Moon: voting has begun

Hello, after six weeks of community discussion about Wikipedia to the Moon, there are now 10 different proposals for content for the mission. Starting today, you can vote for them on Meta-Wiki, and decide what we will work on: a Wikipedia canon, different lists, the Moon in 300 languages, an astronomy editathon, featured articles, articles about technology, endangered things, or DNA-related topics. You can even vote against community involvement. Voting is open until 24 June. Sorry that this message is again in English only, but we are using village pumps to reach as many communities as possible, so that everyone knows they can vote. Wikipedia to the Moon: invitation to edit

uredi

Three weeks ago, you were invited to vote on how to take Wikipedia articles to the Moon. Community voting is over and the winning idea is to send all ‘’featured articles and lists’’ to the Moon. This decision means that, starting today, Wikipedians from all language communities are warmly invited to intensively work on their best articles and lists, and submit them to Wikipedia to the Moon. The central site to coordinate between communities will be Meta-Wiki. You will find an overview and more information there. Hopefully, we will be able to represent as many languages as possible, to show Wikipedia’s diversity. Please feel kindly invited to edit on behalf of your community and tell us about your work on featured content!

Compact Language Links has been available as a beta-feature on all Wikimedia wikis since 2014. With compact language links enabled, users are shown a much shorter list of languages on the interlanguage link section of an article (see image). This will be enabled as a feature in the coming week for all users, which can be turned on or off using a preference setting. We look forward to your feedback and please do let us know if you have any questions. Details about Compact Language Links can be read in the project documentation.

Due to the large scale enablement of this feature, we have had to use MassMessage for this announcement and as a result it is only written in English. We will really appreciate if this message can be translated for other users of this wiki. The main announcement can also be translated on this page. Thank you. Screenshot of Compact Language Links interlanguage list

Compact Language Links has been available as a beta-feature on all Wikimedia wikis since 2014. With compact language links enabled, users are shown a much shorter list of languages on the interlanguage link section of an article (see image). Based on several factors, this shorter list of languages is expected to be more relevant for them and valuable for finding similar content in a language known to them. More information about compact language links can be found in the documentation.

From today onwards, compact language links has been enabled as the default listing of interlanguage links on this wiki. However, using the button at the bottom, you will be able to see a longer list of all the languages the article has been written in. The setting for this compact list can be changed by using the checkbox under User Preferences -> Appearance -> Languages

The compact language links feature has been tested extensively by the Wikimedia Language team, which developed it. However, in case there are any problems or other feedback please let us know on the project talk page. It is to be noted that on some wikis the presence of an existing older gadget that was used for a similar purpose may cause an interference for compact language list. We would like to bring this to the attention of the admins of this wiki. Full details are on this phabricator ticket (in English).

Due to the large scale enablement of this feature, we have had to use MassMessage for this announcement and as a result it is only written in English. We will really appreciate if this message can be translated for other users of this wiki. Thank you. On behalf of the Wikimedia Language team: Runa Bhattacharjee (WMF) (talk)-04:26, 15. јул 2016. Hello. (1) I received an unexpected invitation to participate in the Serbian Wikipedia. But I does not know Serbian language at all - it's probably a mistake? (2) There are information relating to occupation safety and health. I might try to move the main part of it in Serbian Wikipedia, if anyone can help improve translation quality. I'm not quite sure what you meant by "an unexpected invitation to participate in the Serbian Wikipedia." Maybe you were referring to this message, which is just a generic welcome message sent to anyone who visits the Serbian Wikipedia and attaches it to their global account (as you can see, this wiki was attached to your account on June 17, 2016 at 12:29 and the bot sent you a message the next day at around 10 p.m.). Any new wiki you visit will automatically get attached to your account. If you got an invite somewhere other than this wiki, I'm afraid we're not responsible for that. – Srdjan m (разговор) 15:41, 10. септембар 2016. (CEST)[odgovori]

Welcomes from MilicevicBot

uredi

I've just received a welcome message from this bot, and I believe it is premature. Could you please move it until after one's first edit? These days, if you have an account on any language Wikipedia, your accounts for all other languages are created automatically. This is for a good reason, but it means everyone who, more or less accidentally, clicks on a .sr link, receives what appears to be spam. In my case, there are similarities between Serbian and Polish (so I can often blargh some meaning from context) and I had 3 long-forgotten years of Russian in elementary school (so I can, with difficulty, decipher cyrillic), but can't claim anything above Sr-0.001. While reading about en:pre-Christian writing, I wondered how modern languages spell those "cherty i rezy", thus I took a glance at .sr despite not knowing the language. -KiloByte (разговор) 05:19, 31. октобар 2016. We are having a problem with attackers taking over wiki accounts with privileged user rights (for example, admins, bureaucrats, oversighters, checkusers). It appears that this may be because of weak or reused passwords.

Community members are working along with members of multiple teams at the Wikimedia Foundation to address this issue.

In the meantime, we ask that everyone takes a look at the passwords they have chosen for their wiki accounts. If you know that you've chosen a weak password, or if you've chosen a password that you are using somewhere else, please change those passwords.

Why do I suddenly have a discussion page in Serbian?

Hello,

Excuse me, but where did this page: https://sr.wiki.x.io/wiki/%D0%A0%D0%B0%D0%B7%D0%B3%D0%BE%D0%B2%D0%BE%D1%80_%D1%81%D0%B0_%D0%BA%D0%BE%D1%80%D0%B8%D1%81%D0%BD%D0%B8%D0%BA%D0%BE%D0%BC:CRConrad come from?

It was apparently created by https://sr.wiki.x.io/wiki/%D0%9A%D0%BE%D1%80%D0%B8%D1%81%D0%BD%D0%B8%D0%BA:MilicevicBot , which I assume is some automated script. But I don't really know, since I neither read nor speak Serbian.

Please somebody tell me some compelling reason to keep that page, or if I can safely delete it in a few days.

BTW, I'm checking the "nadgledaj ovu stranicu" page below -- that's "Watch this page", right? --CRConrad (razgovor) 14:59, 16. novembar 2016. (CET)[odgovori]

@CRConrad: It came from a bot, and it's a welcome message sent to new users. The reason why it gets sent before someone makes an edit is because it has a bunch of useful information new users should know about (such as not to change the script or the yat reflexes in existing articles [though there are some exceptions]). It also gets sent to anyone who attaches the Serbian Wikipedia to their global account (usually by visiting any page on the wiki while being logged in; it was attached to your global account on November 14, 2016 at 4:26 p.m. UTC). I can't really give you a compelling reason to keep it, but most people would just ignore these welcome messages as they aren't that unusual. I've gotten the same message on several other projects (here's just one example; 0 edits). – Srdjan m (razgovor) 15:50, 16. novembar 2016. (CET)[odgovori]

Review of initial updates on Wikimedia movement strategy process

uredi

Note: Apologies for cross-posting and sending in English. Message is available for translation on Meta-Wiki.

The Wikimedia movement is beginning a movement-wide strategy discussion, a process which will run throughout 2017. For 15 years, Wikimedians have worked together to build the largest free knowledge resource in human history. During this time, we've grown from a small group of editors to a diverse network of editors, developers, affiliates, readers, donors, and partners. Today, we are more than a group of websites. We are a movement rooted in values and a powerful vision: all knowledge for all people. As a movement, we have an opportunity to decide where we go from here.

This movement strategy discussion will focus on the future of our movement: where we want to go together, and what we want to achieve. We hope to design an inclusive process that makes space for everyone: editors, community leaders, affiliates, developers, readers, donors, technology platforms, institutional partners, and people we have yet to reach. There will be multiple ways to participate including on-wiki, in private spaces, and in-person meetings. You are warmly invited to join and make your voice heard.

The immediate goal is to have a strategic direction by Wikimania 2017 to help frame a discussion on how we work together toward that strategic direction.

Regular updates are being sent to the Wikimedia-l mailing list, and posted on Meta-Wiki. Beginning with this message, monthly reviews of these updates will be sent to this page as well. Sign up to receive future announcements and monthly highlights of strategy updates on your user talk page.

Here is a review of the updates that have been sent so far:

More information about the movement strategy is available on the Meta-Wiki 2017 Wikimedia movement strategy portal.

Correction retrieved

My correction on the Zabel Jesajan page has been retrieved. The correction was as follows: "Intervju sa američkim prevodiocem knjige „Bašte Silihdara”" instead of "Intervju sa turskim prevodiocem knjige „Bašte Silihdara”". If you follow the external link from Spoljašnje veze, as well as http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/the-renaissance-of-an-ottoman-armenian-feminist.aspx?pageID=238&nID=78229&NewsCatID=474 you will convince yourself that the translator into English is really American, and not Turkish, although the interview was published in a Turkish newspaper.

On behalf of the Wikimedia Foundation Elections Committee, I am pleased to announce that self-nominations are being accepted for the 2017 Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees Elections.

The Board of Trustees (Board) is the decision-making body that is ultimately responsible for the long-term sustainability of the Wikimedia Foundation, so we value wide input into its selection. More information about this role can be found on Meta-Wiki. Please read the letter from the Board of Trustees calling for candidates.

The candidacy submission phase will last from April 7 (00:00 UTC) to April 20 (23:59 UTC).

We will also be accepting questions to ask the candidates from April 7 to April 20. You can submit your questions on Meta-Wiki.

Once the questions submission period has ended on April 20, the Elections Committee will then collate the questions for the candidates to respond to beginning on April 21.

The goal of this process is to fill the three community-selected seats on the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees. The election results will be used by the Board itself to select its new members.

The full schedule for the Board elections is as follows. All dates are inclusive, that is, from the beginning of the first day (UTC) to the end of the last.

  • April 7 (00:00 UTC) – April 20 (23:59 UTC) – Board nominations
  • April 7 – April 20 – Board candidates questions submission period
  • April 21 – April 30 – Board candidates answer questions
  • May 1 – May 14 – Board voting period
  • May 15–19 – Board vote checking
  • May 20 – Board result announcement goal

In addition to the Board elections, we will also soon be holding elections for the following roles:

  • Funds Dissemination Committee (FDC)
    • There are five positions being filled. More information about this election will be available on Meta-Wiki.
  • Funds Dissemination Committee Ombudsperson (Ombuds)
    • One position is being filled. More information about this election will be available on Meta-Wiki.

Please note that this year the Board of Trustees elections will be held before the FDC and Ombuds elections. Candidates who are not elected to the Board are explicitly permitted and encouraged to submit themselves as candidates to the FDC or Ombuds positions after the results of the Board elections are announced.

More information on this year's elections can be found on Meta-Wiki. Any questions related to the election can be posted on the election talk page on Meta-Wiki, or sent to the election committee's mailing list, board-elections wikimedia.org.

Wikidata description editing in the Wikipedia Android app

uredi

Wikidata description editing is a new experiment being rolled out on the Wikipedia app for Android. While this primarily impacts Wikidata, the changes are also addressing a concern about the mobile versions of Wikipedia, so that mobile users will be able to edit directly the descriptions shown under the title of the page and in the search results.

We began by rolling out this feature several weeks ago to a pilot group of Wikipedias (Russian, Hebrew, and Catalan), and have seen very positive results including numerous quality contributions in the form of new and updated descriptions, and a low rate of vandalism.

We are now ready for the next phase of rolling out this feature, which is to enable it in a few days for all Wikipedias except the top ten by usage within the app (i.e. except English, German, Italian, French, Spanish, Japanese, Dutch, Portuguese, Turkish, and Chinese). We will enable the feature for those languages instead at some point in the future, as we closely monitor user engagement with our expanded set of pilot communities. As always, if have any concerns, please reach out to us on wiki at the talk page for this project or by email at reading@wikimedia.org. Thanks!

The strategy discussion. The Cycle 2 will start on May 5

uredi

Hi! I'm sorry that I'm not writing in Serbian. Pomozite u prevođenju na svoj jezik!

What's been going on so far

The first cycle of the Wikimedia movement strategy process recently concluded and the second cycle will begin soon. The strategy facilitators and many volunteers have summarized the discussions of the previous month. A quantitative analysis of the more than 1800 summary statements collected from the various communities will be posted on Meta for translation this week, alongside the report from the Berlin conference.

What will happen

The second cycle is set to begin on May 5 and run until May 31. During that period, you will be invited to dive into the main topics that emerged in the first cycle, discuss what they mean, which ones are the most important and why, and what their practical implications are. This work will be informed and complemented by research involving new voices that haven’t traditionally been included in strategy discussions, like readers, partners, and experts.

Together, we will begin to make sense of all this information and organize it into a meaningful guiding document, which we will all collectively refine during the third and last cycle in June−July.

What you could do
  • Tell us where to announce the start of the Cycle 2, and how to do that, so we could be sure the majority of your community is informed and has a chance to feel committed, and
  • Facilitate the Cycle 2 discussions here, on Serbian Wikipedia (with invitations to the contributors of other Serbian projects).

Friendly disclaimer: this message wasn't written by a bureaucrat or a person who doesn't care about your project. I'm a Wikipedian. If you have any questions, please, do ask!

(By the way, are those messages read by anyone? To me, a user from Polish Wikipedia, a separate page for mass messages written in English sent mainly or exclusively by bots seems to be a place for trifles. I don't want to be ignored by the majority. Maybe I should post somewhere else?) SGrabarczuk (WMF) (razgovor) 16:38, 30. april 2017. (CEST)[odgovori]

Prototype for editing Wikidata infoboxes on Wikipedia

uredi

Hello,

I’m sorry for writing in English. It’d be great if someone could translate this message if necessary.

One of the most requested features for Wikidata is to enable editing of Wikidata’s data directly from Wikipedia, so the editors can continue their workflow without switching websites.

The Wikidata development team has been working on a tool to achieve this goal: fill and edit the Wikipedia infoboxes with information from Wikidata, directly on Wikipedia, via the Visual Editor.

We already asked for feedback in 2015, and collected some interesting ideas which we shared with you in this thesis. Now we would like to present to you our first prototype and collect your feedback, in order to improve and continue the development of this feature.

We present this work to you very early, so we can include your feedback before and all along the development. You are the core users of this feature, so we want to make sure that it fits your needs and editing processes.

You will find the prototype, description of the features, and a demo video, on this page. Feel free to add any comment or feedback on the talk page. The page is currently not translated in every languages, but you can add your contribution by helping to translate it.

Unfortunately, I won’t be able to follow all the discussions on Wikipedia, so if you want to be sure that your feedback is read, please add it on the Wikidata page, in your favorite language. Thanks for your understanding.

Thanks, Lea Lacroix (WMDE)

Ana Brnabić

uredi

I hope this is the correct place to post this. My attention has been drawn by the coincidence of Ireland's new prime minister Leo Varadkar, and Serbia's PM designate Ana Brnabić. English-language media has covered the LGBT angle, putting that in the political context of the two countries. News stories have also discussed the implications of Varadkar being the son of an immigrant, ie how much Irish society has changed over the past generation, in attitudes as well as demography. At one point the English-language Wikipedia stated that Brnabić is the daughter of a Croat. I would like to know a little more about this: first of all, "citation needed". And beyond that, what importance does the ethnic heritage of politicians play in contemporary Serbia? OK, so she is the first lesbian, and indeed first woman: fine. But is "first Croat" a useful term? I cannot read Serbian, and auto-translate is not helping me. An explanation of this aspect of her life would enrich the English Wikipedia (and perhaps the Serbian one too - I cannot judge that). Thank you. Carbon Caryatid (разговор) 19:12, 20. јун 2017. Greetings,

"Military history" is one of the most important subjects when speak of sum of all human knowledge. To support contributors interested in the area over various language Wikipedias, we intend to form a user group. It also provides a platform to share the best practices between military historians, and various military related projects on Wikipedias. An initial discussion was has been done between the coordinators and members of WikiProject Military History on English Wikipedia. Now this discussion has been taken to Meta-Wiki. Contributors intrested in the area of military history are requested to share their feedback and give suggestions at Talk:Discussion to incubate a user group for Wikipedia Military Historians.

Strange edit to the Serbian talk page I didn't know I had

uredi

I received a message that someone left a message on my talk page. But Serbian is not among the languages I speak, I've never edited on the Serbian Wikipedia, or even browsed an article on it.

As far as I can tell (based strictly on Google Translate), it's a welcome message. I'm just not sure why I got it, unless it's just the most random of all friendly gestures. But based on the name, it looks as though it was left by a bot?

Thanks! 1980fast (razgovor) 00:31, 13. februar 2018. (CET)[odgovori]

@1980fast: You were sent a welcome message because your user name appeared on our new user list. A rather large number of user accounts were added to that list on Feb 10th, so it is possible that it was some sort of a system error. My apologies for the inconvenience that the message may have caused you. Regards, --Dcirovic (razgovor) 01:58, 13. februar 2018. (CET)[odgovori]

Branimir Štulić

uredi

On the article of Branimir Štulić is constantly reverted ([28]) false information from Serbian tabloids and press that Branimir's father was a Serb. On the talk page started a discussion, Razgovor:Branimir Štulić#Stulic's father was not a Serb. No reliable source in Serbo-Croatian or English can confirm this (being against VP:NPOV), Branimir via his lawyer Zoran Živković on English Wikipedia stated that "His father neither was a Serb or Serbian (neither anyone in his family) and according to Mr. Štulić he pleaded as Yugoslav" (which mention of English, Croatian and Serbia Wikipedia is related to [29], where is mentioned his lawyer Zdenko Živković), his cousins Svetko, and Mirko who in the monography "Nin i Štulići" (2009) on page 51. mentioned the consideration from Serbia that Branimir is of Serb origin from Dalmatian Zagora (referencing to the Serbian tabloid sources, including [30], [31]), was called by Svetko as an obvious "lie", "propaganda" and "false myth". When someone wants to correct this falsehood it is reverted and called besmislice/vandalizam. Editor MareBG reverted it saying that it is not permissible to mix letters or languages in the same article, but currently several music releases and references are of mixed language and alphabet, and when I made translation/transliteration to Serbian Cyrillic alphabet, it was again reverted without any substantiation. It indicates the argument by editor MareBG was an obvious lie. Such behavior i.e. gaming of the system is not tolerated in English i.e. Wikipedia in general. It is against the editing policy. --Miki Filigranski (razgovor) 16:37, 26. mart 2018. (CEST)[odgovori]

WP0 abusers attack at sr.wiki

uredi

(sorry for using English) As most of you have already noticed Serbian wiki is under attack from a series of accounts uploading non free music files and porns. These are users from Wikipedia zero (WP0) which is a service aimed at giving free of charge access to Wikipedia in several countries. These users try exploiting Wikipedia as a file sharing service, they started attacking commons, the fi.wiki, el.wiki, id.wiki, hu.wiki, de.wiki, en.wikinews, sh.wiki and more. I've just created a simple abusefilter rule which should stop these uploads, so I kindly ask sr.wiki's admins to enable the filter if they think there are no significant side effects. Also, if possible, please report those accounts to m:SRG. --Vituzzu (razgovor) 14:40, 2. jun 2018. (CEST)[odgovori]

New user request, sorry if I break the Serbian rules.

I am a medical doctor in Melbourne Australia. I am trying to translate my english wikipedia page Social Media Addiction into as many languages as possible. This is very expensive which I cannot afford for all languages at present, and I have paid for the introduction and infobox into Serbian. I am also not a very good wikipedia editor as I havent done it for 10 years prior to this and sometimes i accidentally break rules.

I was hoping for help from a bilingual so that they can translate and we can address this worldwide crisis together. Thankyou E.3 (razgovor) 09:06, 20. decembar 2018. (CET)[odgovori]

New user group for editing sitewide CSS / JS

uredi

Editing of sitewide CSS/JS is only possible for interface administrators from now

uredi

(Pomozite u prevođenju na svoj jezik)

Hi all,

as announced previously, permission handling for CSS/JS pages has changed: only members of the interface-admin (Administratori interfejsa) group, and a few highly privileged global groups such as stewards, can edit CSS/JS pages that they do not own (that is, any page ending with .css or .js that is either in the MediaWiki: namespace or is another user's user subpage). This is done to improve the security of readers and editors of Wikimedia projects. More information is available at Creation of separate user group for editing sitewide CSS/JS. If you encounter any unexpected problems, please contact me or file a bug.

Thanks!

Hello.
∼ 1 year ago I brought to attention rampant copyvios in the Incubator’s Montenegrin Wikipedia. In the wake of the scandal StevenJ81 (razgovor · doprinosi), an Incubator’s official, specifically admonished Ookuninusi (razgovor · doprinosi) for facebook copy-and-pastes. Seemingly Ookuninusi took the message in a sense that Facebook people have their copyright protected, but Bosniak users from Wikipedia have not.

Look at this revision of an article (then brand-new). Can you guess where to look for the source? I didn’t hesitate as long as five seconds – it is https://bs.wiki.x.io/w/index.php?title=Izet_Nanić&oldid=2944228 . Some cosmetic replacements and removal of specifically Islamic words happened, but the article was “written” with such blatant Latin-to-Cyrillic that caught a link to (non-existent) Commons category “Izet_Nanić”—in Cyrillic—later replaced by a bot. Were sources of the text specified—in the edit summary, talk page, or some footnote in the article itself? Expectedly, nothing was specified.

Persistent disrespect to attribution terms of the Creative Commons license may eventually lead to worrisome repercussions Wikimedia-wide. Please, enforce source links for texts originally created by Wikipedians in another Southwest Slavic forks. Incnis Mrsi (razgovor) 13:15, 3. januar 2019. (CET)[odgovori]

Razgovor:Izet Nanić (uredi | tema | istorija | veze | nadgledaj | dnevnici) shows some progress—after four weeks—but:

  1. {{prevedeno}} doesn’t produce the source Wikipedia link;
  2. have you any idea how many such articles exist?

Mobile visual editor test

uredi

Pomozite u prevođenju na svoj jezik.

Hello all,

The mw:Editing team has been improving the mw:Mobile visual editor. They would like to test it here. The purpose of the test is to learn which editor is better for new contributors. This is a great opportunity for your wiki to learn the same. This is an easy test that requires no work from you. You can read more about it at mw:VisualEditor on mobile/VE mobile default.

What? The test compares the mobile visual editor and the mobile wikitext editor, for newer registered editors (<100 edits).

Who? Half the people who edit from the mobile site will start in the mobile visual editor. The other half will start in the mobile wikitext editor. Remember: Most editors are not using the mobile site and will not be affected by this test. Also, users can switch at any time, and their changes will be automatically remembered and respected. If you have already tried the mobile visual editor, your preference is already recorded and will be respected.

When? The test will start soon, during June. The test will take about six weeks. (Then it will take a few weeks to write the report.)

Why? This test will help the team recommend initial preference settings. It will help them learn whether different wikis should have different settings.

Switching editing tools is quick and easy on mobile.

How can I switch? It's easy to switch editing environments on the mobile site.

  1. Go to the mobile site, e.g., http://test.m.wiki.x.io/wiki/Special:Random or http://sr.m.wiki.x.io/wiki/Special:Random
  2. Open any page to edit (click the pencil icon).
  3. Click the new pencil icon to switch editing modes.
  4. Choose either "Vizuelno uređivanje" or "Uređivanje izvora" from the menu.
  5. Done! You can do the same thing to switch back at any time.

If you have any questions, please leave a note at mw:Talk:VisualEditor on mobile/VE mobile default. Thank you! Whatamidoing (WMF) (razgovor) 00:17, 1. jun 2019. (CEST)[odgovori]

@Maxie1hoi: The Serbian language has two equal scripts - Cyrillic and Latin. Some time ago, the editors got involved in creating a converter between the two scripts. The Croatian language uses only Latin, and the Bosniak language appears double-scripted. On the other hand, I do not see a tendency to use Cyrillic at Bosnian Wikipedia. Our goal is to build a movement informed framework that provides shared clarity and outlines accessible pathways on how to grow and develop skills within the movement. To this end, we are looking to speak with you, our community to learn about your journey as a Wikimedia volunteer. Whether you joined yesterday or have been here from the very start, we want to hear about the many ways volunteers join and contribute to our movement.

To learn more about the project, please visit the Meta page. If you are interested in participating in the project, please complete this simple Google form. Although we may not be able to speak to everyone who expresses interest, we encourage you to complete this short form if you are interested in participating!

Sorry, for writing this text in English. If you could help to translate it, it would be appreciated.

You might know the new interface for edit conflicts (currently a beta feature). Now, Wikimedia Germany is designing an additional interface to solve edit conflicts on talk pages. This interface is shown to you when you write on a discussion page and another person writes a discussion post in the same line and saves it before you do. With this additional editing conflict interface you can adjust the order of the comments and edit your comment. We are inviting everyone to have a look at the planned feature.
