Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band je osmi album britanske rok-grupe Bitlsi. Sniman je sa pauzama od kraja 1966. do sredine 1967. godine i objavljen 14. juna 1967. godine. Producent je bio Džordž Martin, a studijski inženjer Geof Emerik. Većina kritičara se slaže sa izborom magazina „Roling stoun“, po kome je ovo najveći rok album svih vremena.[1] Ovaj album, ujedno, ima i najslavniji omot u istoriji roka.

Početak psihodelične ere
urediNakon odustajanja od rok-turneja avgusta 1966. godine, popularnost „Bitlsa“ počela je naglo da opada, a mediji su počeli da špekulišu da je grupa idejno „presušila“ pod naletom nove generacije rok-umetnika, pre svega žanrovski opredeljenih za psihodelični rok, vrstu rokenrola koja nastaje pod uticajem halucinogenih droga, pre svega LSD-a[2].
„Bitlsi“ su još od ranije koristili ove droge, međutim uticaj istih na njihovu muziku nije bio preterano izražen (izuzev na nekolicinu pesama sa albuma Revolver, među kojima je i prva psihodelična pesma ove grupe-Tomorrow Never Knows). Februara 1967. godine, na nagovor menadžera Brajana Epstajna, Bitlsi objavljuju singl Strawberry Fields Forever/Penny Lane, sa pesmama prvobitno planiranim za naredni LP-album. Singl je zauzeo drugo mesto na top-listama i nakon čitavog niza godina, to je okarakterisano kao neuspeh. Međutim, nakon ovoga, grupa nije nekoliko meseci ni izlazila iz studija.
Studijski rad
urediUz dozvolu producenta Džordž Martina da i u studiju koriste izvesne količine droge, Bitlsi, po prvi put su bili predvođeni Polom Makartnijem, jer je dotadašnji frontmen, Džon Lenon bio u depresiji zbog porodičnih problema. Makartni je bio autor većine pesama na albumu (pa i naslovne pesme), međutim i Lenon je značajno doprineo ovom projektu pesmama kao što su Being for Benefits of Mr. Kite i A Day in the Life, čiji je deo snimio i Makartni za sopstvenu pesmu, međutim Martin ga je pridodao Lenonovoj. Sve pesme ovog dvojca su kasnije, po ranijem dogovoru, obeležene tradicionalno- Lenon/Makartni, međutim svaki autor je glavni vokal u svojoj pesmi, izuzev u slučaju pesme “With a Little Help of My Friends”, koju je otpevao bubnjar, Ringo Star. Što se tiče studijske tehnike, korišćena je dotadašnja mašina za snimanje sa 4 kanala, ADT (Auto Double-Tracking) mašina za udvajanje nečijeg glasa. U narednom periodu, ova mašina će biti sve popularnija, kako u grupi bude rasla individualnost članova, koji će želeti da sami snime veći deo ili čak i cele svoje pesme.
Omot
urediPrema različitim izvorima, i omot je bio Makartnijeva ideja. Bitlsi, u gardijskim uniformama, sa duvačkim instrumentima, po prvi put sa brkovima i bradom sastavni je deo svih verzija ovog albuma. Međutim u američkom izdanju, na tome se sve i završava, jer se iza grupe nalazi samo žuti zid. U britanskom (evropskom) izdanju, iza „Bitlsa“ se nalazi gomila ljudi, značajnih u tadašnjem i prošlom vremenu- među njima su Albert Ajnštajn, Karl Marks, Merilin Monro,... Međutim i samih „Bitlsa“ sa izgledom od pre ovog albuma. Pored toga, ispod članova grupe je cvetni dekor sa natpisom “The Beatles”. Ovakav album, bio je mamac za mnoge teoretičare zavere, pa je ovo ujedno i jedan od najmisterioznijih omota svih vremena.
Konačni koncept
urediCeo album vezuje jedna tema, što je bio svojevrsni presedan i time su „Bitlsi“ postali tvorci tzv. „koncept-albuma“. Glavni junak dotične priče je izvesni Bili Širs (koga, zahvaljujući činjenici da mu je pozajmio glas u pesmi “With a Little Help of My Friends”, tumači Ringo Star), koji nakon pompeznog nastupa orkestra „Kluba Usamljenih Srca Narednika Pepera“ skromno najavljuje nastup više „usamljenih srca“, tvrdeći da mu je nakon napornog dana dovoljna „mala pomoć prijatelja“. Potom, u narednim pesmama, „Bitlsi“ komentarišu razne egzistencijalne probleme- od normalnog radnog dana (“Good Morning, Good Morning”), starosti (“When I`m 64”) do same smrti i problema oko nje (“Lucy in the Sky With Diamond”, čija početna slova reči, inače, daju naziv droge LSD). Album zatvara nešto izmenjena (“reprise”) verzija prve pesme, koja se nadovezuje na poslednju, „bis“ pesmu- “A Day in the Life”. Ceo album prate studijski pridodate ovacije publike i aplauzi.
Nakon objavljivanja
urediAlbum je doživeo veliki uspeh i mnogi ga i danas smatraju najuspešnijim LP-om grupe. Pozitivnu kritiku je dobio čak i od kritičara klasične muzike, kada su Lenon i Makartni upoređeni sa Šostakovičem i proglašeni najvećim kompozitorima u periodu posle Betovena. Grupa se zavetovala da više neće koristiti narkotike, jer je svoj novi unutrašnji mir pronašla u novom duhovnom, indijskom vođi, Mahareši-Maš Jogiju, koji je tvorac transcedentalne meditacije. Izvesno je, međutim, da su drogu svi članovi nastavili da koriste.
